Intellectual Property, Trade Secret Protection, and Patent Protection

Two Nath Law Group attorneys, Jerald L. Meyer and H. David Starr were published in the September 26th, 2011 issue of Virginia Lawyers Weekly. The first article, The ABCs of Intellectual Property for the GP, explains (in alphabetical order) common intellectual property terms in ways to help general practitioners spot issues behind client questions about intellectual property. The second article, Trade Secrets - An Alternative to Patent Protection, compares and contrasts trade secret protection with patent protection, and discusses some of the factors to consider when deciding which option to choose as a way to protect your intellectual property. The third article, Ten Questions to Ask Every Inventor, provides ten questions to ask any inventor who wants to patent an invention. These questions help identify potential problems, and be used to help guide the inventor through the patent process.
