GARY M. NATH is the Founder of Nath, Goldberg & Meyer (Formerly The Nath Law Group). Before retirement, Mr. Nath was a patent attorney and legal advisor to a wide array of clients including major U.S., European and Asian multinational corporations; universities and other research institutions; small businesses and start-up companies; and sole inventors and entrepreneurs. Mr. Nath draws from his experience as Patent Counsel for three Fortune 500 companies, his entrepreneurial savvy gained as a founding member of more than ten start-up companies, and as founder of Nath, Goldberg & Meyer. He has advanced scientific training in chemistry, biology, and physics that enables him to guide clients in all aspects of IP law, including patent and trademark prosecution and litigation, with a particular emphasis on the strategic development and management of a client’s patent and trademark portfolio.

Board of Director Services

Start-up companies often require leadership and guidance on IP matters but most do not have the need or resources for full-time patent counsel. These companies may encounter IP issues, which demand senior management and patent counsel leadership and involvement in order to be handled properly, especially during early stages of corporate development. Mr. Nath presently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for several public and private companies.

Professional Profile

Mr. Nath entered private practice in 1989 after almost twenty years as a corporate attorney. In his practice, he counsels both large multinational corporate clients as well as small businesses, research organizations and startups, across a broad range of technologies, including the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnical, telecommunications, and mechanical fields. He is particularly skilled at developing and implementing patent and trademark strategies that maximize intellectual property portfolio value and protection as well as licensing opportunities.

Mr. Nath founded NGM in 1993. The firm engages in all aspects of intellectual property law and secures patents and trademarks in the U.S. and in over 116 countries. The San Diego office opened in 2001.

As a corporate attorney, Mr. Nath was an integral part of the Patent and Trademark law departments of several multinational companies: FMC Corporation, NL Industries, and Warner-Lambert Company where he served as patent attorney, Group Patent and Trademark Counsel and General Patent Counsel, respectively for these Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Nath began his patent career as an Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1969, following a brief career teaching biology, chemistry and physics.

Mr. Nath is a former Member of the Board of Trustees of the Licensing Executives Society (USA and Canada) and is an International Delegate to LESI. Mr. Nath is also a member of AIPLA, AIPPI, AUTM, INTA, FICPI, TEC, and other professional organizations. He has been a speaker before numerous domestic and international, professional and lay groups on intellectual property law procurement, enforcement, licensing, financing and technology transfer. He is currently Chair of the Science Advisory Board (SAB) at Rider University.

Mr. Nath was awarded a B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry from Rider University in 1966; attended Temple University undertaking Ph.D. Studies in Biochemistry in 1967 and 1968, and received a Juris Doctor Degree from American University, Washington College of Law in 1972.

Mr. Nath is admitted to practice before the Bars of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia and the State of New Jersey, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, Canadian Bar Association, and United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
